Algonquin Sunday

We took a LONG drive into the interior of Algonquin Park today. The sign at the head of Achray Road says 72 km. It's a good 100 km. to the Observatory. We had a bit of confusion about the Observatory. There is a website devoted to that spot. There is supposed to be a nice spot there where you can get a meal. We approached a big stop sign and another sign which said entry was forbidden. So what gives on that eh?

Not too far past this is a small parking lot at an interior launch spot for canoeists. I never would have imagined there would be that many cars parked that far into the park!
It's lovely in there. This is the Petawawa River where it enters Traverse Lake. I sure wish we'd been able to see the Observatory.

There was a little beaver on the road, it slid down the embankment into this lovely pond. She was one of three playing there.

    1. We often wander off as far as we can possibly get on some of those back roads. Too much logging happening during the week to attempt that though. We have all noticed how nice the forest is looking with some selective cutting. Some people don't like the idea of logging in the park mind you.

  5. Heh Karen. Marlyn here. We were at this spot August 20th. Put the canoe in on Lake Travers, paddled, portaged down Travers River. Caught 3 muskie. Camped there. Did the whole northern section of the park. North River Lake, Wendego, North Depot. Fun

    1. Marlyn, I'm so happy to hear from you! I hope you and yours are all well. How is Emery doing? And your Mom? Are you still at the farm?
I haven't been down to Peterborough since May. My sister is after me to come visit soonest.
I live very close to the east corner of Algonquin so we spend quite a bit of time there. It is beautiful up at Travers. We hope to get up that way again before the wicked weather falls on us.

    2. Yes still on the farm. Emery retired last September, and we have downsized the farm allowing us to do fun things. I thought of you when I saw the sign saying "the valley" @ driving Cty Rd 28.Mom is still waving ( kicking would be too hard), She is on Dialysis now 3 mornings a week at PRHC, but I now have rides set up so I don't have to drive all the time. Four still at home...I think permently. Gracie was in Isreal in the spring months,Christian work. Have another grandbaby. Looked after 4 grands all summer...never again! Getting too old!!!
